A Little of This and That!
My brother-in-law, Pat, passed away recently. He remained my brother-in-law even after my sister and he divorced. They remarried once, but again divorced. My husband thought of Pat as the brother he never had. My husband is an only child.
Jill and Pat remained great friends through the years. A few weeks after Jill passed away in 2019 we took Pat to lunch. He told us about the first time he asked her to make him breakfast after they were married. My mom loved to cook. But, she didn’t teach us to cook unless we asked her to teach us. I asked her how to cook, but my sister, Jill did not.
So, when Pat asked her to make breakfast she didn't know what to make him. He said, “I came out to the kitchen and found a balony sandwich on the kitchen table for me.” I laughed. “Pat, why haven’t I ever heard this story before?” He responded, “Because she would get mad at me when I shared it!”
One of the nicest things that happened when Jill and Pat were married is that he agreed to take instructions in the faith with our pastor, Rev. Edwin Dubberke. Pat thought he had to be good all the time or he would go to hell when they first married.
Through these Biblical instructions, he learned he was saved by faith alone in Christ (Eph. 2:8-9). Christ had done the work for him on the cross. His faith shined through to the end. He knew he was going to be with Jesus! He said, “I always loved to read. Pastor Dubberke helped me begin to read the Bible. That changed my life!”
