There is Light at the End of the Tunnel!
written by Kay L. Meyer
There is light at the end of the tunnel. I thought about this statement recently as I realized our nine-month project to restore the lower level of our home might soon come to a close. What's the story? Last December my husband and I returned home from a 9-day vacation at our daughters to find that a water pipe had frozen and broken in our bathroom ceiling downstairs. Since we had been gone for days, water had poured down for at least six of the days. The water destroyed the bathroom, the bedroom and the family room/office. Getting it torn out took 4 months, and the construction, so far, has been another five months. But now, finally, we see light at the end of the tunnel! Praise the Lord!
A few years ago, I wrote a Bible study entitled, Follow the Light for a Christian women's group. It focused on many Bible verses about light and that Jesus is the light of the world. One area talked about Jesus being transfigured on the Mount of Transfiguration. As we studied God's Word about this, I was again reminded that when He was transfigured, He shined like the sun. So, when we come to our last days on earth, we can be assured that “There is light at the end of the Tunnel! Jesus is the light!” (John 8:12, Matt. 17:1-9, Luke 9:38-36, Mark 9: 2-13 and 1 John 1:5-7). The Bible study is available upon request.
My brother-in-law, Pat, is moving from a Senior Citizen Center to an Assisted Living Facility because of continued health problems that have gotten worse. At 80 years old, his health is failing. But his faith in Christ is strong. During his marriage to my sister, Jill, who is now with the Lord, he, as a Roman Catholic, decided to take instructions in the Lutheran faith. As a Catholic, he knew Jesus, but these classes helped him grow in his faith. He learned that he did not need to do good works to be saved, but that Christ had suffered and died for all of his sins. His sins are forgiven because of Christ. The classes with Rev. Edwin Dubberke transformed his faith. He had always thought he had to do good works to receive forgiveness and eternal life. Now he knows he cannot save himself. And he knows when his last days on earth come, he will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thankfully, that light is Christ Jesus!
What about you and me? When our last days on earth are upon us, will we also say, “There is Light at the End of the Tunnel!” And know that the light is Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior! I pray we do!
“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. We ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.” (2 Peter 1:16-21).
Prayer: Lord Jesus thank you for being the Light of the world. Thank you for suffering and dying for all our sins and giving us faith as a free gift. In Your name we pray. Amen.

Are You a Prodigal Parent?
What is a Prodigal Parent? Prodigal Parents are parents that raised their children in the Christian faith. But their children, now adults, have left the faith. This happens for many and varied reasons.
Since Family Shield Ministries recently merged with Faith Family Reunion, we are interested in meeting Prodigal Parents in St. Louis to learn more about them and their needs.
I would love to gather a few small groups of parents at a local congregation to listen and learn what their needs are as Prodigal Parents and how Family Shield can serve them and their congregation.
We will spend time getting acquainted, pray with and for each other, and offer Christian support to each other.
