Family Shield Ministries, founded in 1994, is an independent and self-supporting Recognized Service Organization of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. The name is based on Eph. 6:16 which says, "Take up the shield of faith." The mission: We care about families growing in Christ and equip them to witness to each other and to the world. Strategic objectives include: 1) To share the Gospel with those who do not know Christ; 2) To equip Christians to apply faith to life, grow in the knowledge of God's Word, and use their gifts to serve in the home, church, and community; 3) To connect people with needs to resources; 4) To develop partnerships and collaborations; and 5) To help individuals and families implement the six traits of healthy families.
Educational and evangelism services include: the Family Shield radio program that is broadcast on over 50 radio stations throughout the United States, seminars and workshops, the counter-cult ministry (equipping Christian family members and friends of those involved in cults like Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons), and promoting and producing resources. One resource is: Witnessing - A Lifestyle. This book helps Christian learn how to share their faith with family members and friends in a non-threatening way. Another book is "Mission Field on Our Doorstep: Jehovah's Witnesses."
The Family Shield radio program began in 1996 in St. Louis, Missouri. You can hear past programs on the podcast page on the website. The radio expansion, has been exciting, as well as financially challenging. Program topics include: Parenting--God's Way, Dealing with Sibling Rivalry, Grandparents--Mentors of the Faith, Lifestyle Witnessing, and Sharing Christ with Hurting People.
We continue to expand our reach through partnerships with like-minded ministries and our new podcast. Numerous partnerships have been established. One is with Lutheran Hour Ministries. Its Response Center takes Family Shield radio program telephone calls and sends complimentary issue-oriented booklets and resources to those who request them. We also feature like-minded ministries on the radio program. Some have included: Lutheran Indian Ministries - reaching Native Americans with the Gospel, Lutheran Hour Ministries, and Feed My People. We have also featured Our Lady's Inn, a maternity home for homeless women, NAMI, and other social ministries that help families.
Ongoing financial support is needed as we share Christ (John 3:16 and Eph. 2:8-9) and build strong, healthy families. Sadly, many today believe they are saved by their good works instead of faith in Christ alone. Family Shield boldly proclaims that Jesus is the only means of salvation (Acts 4:12). Won't you join us in proclaiming this important message to the world?
Your prayers, volunteer service, and financial support allow us to pay for radio airtime, produce new resources, equip the saints to serve and witness, and continue the important outreach, nurture, and equipping services. A gift of $100, $50, $25 would be a great blessing. Your gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Donations should be made out to: Family Shield Ministries. You can also charge your gift on the website.
Supporters allowed us to reach people like "Larry." He was interested in learning about God so he began listening to Christian radio. There he learned, for the first time, that Jesus loved him, suffered in his place, and was his Savior. It took months, but he finally placed his faith in Christ. We referred him to a local congregation and helped get him connected to resources. Today he is a committed Christian who is active in his congregation and volunteers as a youth leader. And your support also allows us to equip Christians like "Barb." She attended a recent Family Shield lifestyle-witnessing seminar and requested prayer for her husband who is not a Christian. And "Sara" who called to ask for prayer for her and husband who are going through marital problems. And "Christine," a single mom trying to raise three young children to know and love Jesus. She listens to the radio program each week and told us, The program is a lifeline of hope and help. It always encourages me in my faith. And for "Ruth" whose 40 year-old son was in a serious boating accident and whose husband had a stroke less than a week after their son's accident. We prayed for these individuals and thousands of others last year. Won't you join hands with us as we share the light (John 8:12) of Jesus with the world!
In partnership with you we can reach those who do not know Christ in time for eternity! And encourage Christians in their faith journey! Your support makes a difference in the lives of those we touch.
You are special. Thank you for caring and praying for us! Please let us know how we can serve you.
In His Service and yours,
