Let's Take a Prayer Walk!

Gethsemane Lutheran Church Takes a Churchwide Prayer Walk
Gethsemane Lutheran Church members in Lemay, Missouri took a church wide prayer walk last month to pray for their Clarity Phase of the new vision for the church. I joined them on this walk. We began in the sanctuary with a prayer. We stopped to pray in the Narthex, basement, gym, classrooms, outside, and the office and parish house. Along the way people reminisced about how the church had been used in the past, prayed for the pastor, elders, members, volunteers, Sunday school teachers and students, their upcoming VBS, teachers and for their outreach ministry. The walk ended as we all sang Cum Ba Yah (Come by Here) together. The prayer walk was organized by Jeannette Kille.

The pastor, Rev Derek Paetow, reminded us that the members are the Church! So no matter where we walk, we represent Christ! I loved meeting all the members of God’s family at Gethsemane that took this churchwide walk as I worshipped at Gethsemane and then took the prayer walk with them. This prayer walk began because their prayer leaders saw Family Shield’s Family Prayer Walk booklet. Praise the Lord. You can download our prayer walk booklet here.

Erica Takes Her Children on Their First Prayer Walk
"Hi Kay. I just wanted you to know that I took my two young children on their first prayer walk last week. We walked at a park near our home. The children enjoyed the lake and feeding the ducks. We stopped to pray near the playground. I asked each of them what they wanted me to pray for. My nine-year-old son said, 'That we can be safe as we travel on vacation.' My daughter said, 'For me to make a new friend at camp next week.' After I prayed for their requests, we prayed for our family and my aunt who has been sick. Then we went to the playground. The children loved the walk and told me afterwards that they want to do another prayer walk soon. I told them next time we would paint some small rocks with Christian messages and leave a couple of them on the trail we take. Thanks for encouraging families to walk and pray together! I think this will soon be a new family tradition."
